Since the creation of the League of Nations after World War One, Indigenous Peoples have continually brought their concerns to international fora.
In 1925, Ratana traveled to Geneva to address the League of Nations about the Treaty of Waitangi and land rights, but he was turned away.
Since then, Indigenous peoples have challenged the United Nations to accept Treaty rights and indigenous rights of Indigenous peoples. Maori have joined with other Indigenous Peoples in this struggle participating in the development of international law and informing the international community of the issues and concerns of Maori.
